The reality is synthetic sex steroid hormones are powerful chemicals, many times more powerful than a woman's natural hormones.
They are immunosuppressants, suppressing the immune system and replacing the natural hormones with chemicals, disrupting the natural systems of the body.
Some women react badly straight away to synthetic sex steroid hormones. If they are lucky, they stop taking them and escape with their lives. Some are not so lucky.
Other women take these powerful synthetic sex steroid hormones long-term. Over the years, side effects creep up on them. Side effects which are then often diagnosed as full-blown medical conditions.
Sometimes these women never associate these conditions with the powerful chemicals they have been taking for years. Sometimes they suspect something, but are persuaded otherwise when their healthcare providers assure them it has nothing to do with the "hormones" prescribed for them.
These drugs are often prescribed for young girls and women for menstrual irregularities. Sometimes these individuals sense there is an adverse effect on their health, but fear coming off the drugs and the return of the original menstrual problems which also affect their general health. Long-term they can develop serious medical problems they never had before taking the synthetic steroids.
Cycle and Steroids mailing list is a discussion group set up for women to discuss their experiences of these drugs and the effects they have had on their menstrual and general health. Those considering taking these drugs are welcome to join to find out the "other side" of the story. List members are welcome to post or lurk.
